Education and Community Outreach

Recycling and Waste Reduction Education Program

We love helping the community learn about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle materials, and the Arcata and Eureka Community Recycling Centers are pleased to offer a series of lessons on the important topics of recycling and waste reduction. We invite you to use this program to help kick start your school's recycling efforts or to enhance the environmental literacy of your students.

These engaging hands-on lessons are offered free of charge to all K-12th grade classrooms within Humboldt County.

New Fieldtrip Opportunity!

ACRC's new Samoa Processing facility is now home to the Bette Dobkin Recycling Education Center. This site offers an excellent view behind the scenes of recycling and a unique space for interactive programs. Class groups watch a feature film to illustrate how Humboldt County recyclables are picked up at the curb, sorted through the machinery on site, and shipped off to be turned into new things.

Limited funding is available to cover fieldtrip transportation costs to Samoa. Call soon to see if your school qualifies.
